Training and Education...
We are in the process of developing further additions to the website to ensure that our members are properly informed, up to date on all aspects of our service and informed of the services we offer and how our existence benefits the Harties Community. Please call back soon to see our updated pages. Thanks.

Personal Safety/Protection
In this day and age, firearm ownership is becoming more onerous, the risks associated with firearm use greater and the cost of firearms and ammunition inhibitive, if not exclusionary. Many people prefer not to consider a solution as lethal as a firearm - especially in families with children or where religious convictions prevail.
For this reason, Harties Community CrimeWatch will present training on various personal and less-than-lethal defensive techniques, technologies and options. Knowing "how to fight" is hardly adequate against an armed attacker and/or multiple attackers or physically superior ones. For this reason, we would like to create awareness of options, discuss and train members on the use of the different options and to inform on the legal implications of each. Coming soon.

Crime Scene Protocols
A Crime Scene is described as any place, location or area where a law has been broken, where a crime was likely committed and/or where a crime scene is declared. Most people no little more than "do not contaminate the scene" but lack the intimate understanding of the true Forensic and Legal Principles that prevail and affect their interaction with crime scenes.
Harties Community CrimeWatch will be offering regular training on the proper, complete and professional handling of cirme scenes. Some of the most notorious crimescenes in history have been contaminated by trained professionals - some as part of their work, others as a result of incompetence. By training CrimeWatch members on the proper identification, demarcation, protection and management of crime scenes, we hope to enhance the efforts of the SAPS towards fighting crime.

Active/Counter Surveillance
Criminals don't always walk down the street, see an open window and decide - then and there - to climb in and take something. Criminals often plan. Without realising it, your house could be watched for days, you could be followed in your vehicles for up to weeks or your access control gate at your security escape can be monitored for extended period - all in an effort to plan crimes.
By understanding proper survailance techniques, the methods used by criminals to learn and study your patterns and the steps you can take to ensure that you frustrate the efforts of the criminal to plan crimes against you, we hope to increase your security and that of the community at large.
We will strive to ensure that our members become capable and aware.

Home Security / Systems
Many people consider cost first when installing an alarm system, security barrier, early detection system, CCTV Security System or even when building a physical barrier (like a wall or fence). This is normal and people often believe that the presence of a camera, light or fence is all it takes to avert criminal assault. But this is not always the case and criminals are highly capable of breaching or compromising most systems - epecially cheap ones.
By providing regular training on the different options, the technology they use and how those can be compromised, the simplest and most effective risk mitigation strategies households or businesses can employ and why some systems function better than others, we hope to enable members to become more self-sufficient while saving money and improving secutriy. We want to empower our members.
