Data Mining..

Over a busy weekend as many as 25,000 vehicles pass through Hartbeespoort. Many are visitors, others are regulars and yeet others are - of course - criminals. It has been seen nationally that vehicles are regularly used as a platform for surveillance, planning, execution of- and escape after crimes.

This can cause paranoia while it is also not possible to check every vehicle that comes through town. But - if we can have a registered database of KNOWN vehicles (belonging to neighbours, local companies, etc) we can immediartely eliminate false reports. When a vehicle is declared suspicious, the police are normally informed.

Sometimes, security companies and Neeighbourhood Watches will monitor the vehicle for a short while and - if it leaves the area - let it go and just forget about it, because it was not invovled in a crime. But what if the vehicle was already invovled in the commission of a crime or if it is planning one?

By developing a vehicle information database with reference to registration number, date, time and location as well as report data, members of Crime Watch and patrollers will be able to check the vehicle quickly with our Cell Phone Application or via our web interface (coming soon).

Be sure to register your vehicle now, to avoid unnecessary concern for others and to eliminate the need to involve police when all you are doing, is driving home.

Location Specific

On any weekend, as many as 25,000 vehicles can pass through Hartbeespoort. Many might be mere communters coming to spend the weekend or passing through the area - but others might be criminals visiting to ply their trade. By arranging regular "data mining parties," Harties Community CrimeWatch will place officers and volunteers at key point specifically to record the details of large volumes of vehicles. This will enable us to detect criminal movements before crimes are even committed - a vital step in fighting crime!

Event Specific

Whenever there is a large gathering of vehicles at a particualr location, event or gathering, there is an opportunity for data mining. By populating our database with basic volumetric identification data, we will enable later report and search efforts to yield likely results. With the cooperation of estates, shopping malls, churches, events venues and static guards, we will be able to interrogate our database and immediatelty detect if a vehicle declares suspicious is local, or not. This will accelerate crime reaction efforts and assit the police.

Vehicle Specific

By getting companies, groups, security estates, local mines, businesses and private individuals to voluntarily populate our database, we will be better equipped and more likely to immediately detect the likely movements of a suspicious vehicle or one used in a crime. By focusing our efforts on data mining operations, we will be placed in a position to immediately point police investigtors towards possible locations where those same suspicious vehicles have been detected before. We will find them quicker, this way.

Report Specific

By linking up with the efforts of the SAPS and Neighborhood Watches as well as other Security services, we hope to tap into their report-specific crime investigation efforts. Harties Community CrimeWatch is already linked to multiple national and local crime, neighborhood watch and crime intelligence as well as vehicle hijacking recovery groups. By exploiting the report-specific data and entering reports into our database, we hope to assist in the on-going fight against crime.
